Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts

I am pretty new to this product, so I will ask for forgiveness up front. Here is my issue. On the inside (LAN) everything works fine, on the outside (WAN) I can receive mail but cannot send mail. I get the following error. I am using SME ver 5.6.
****
"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'user@domain.org'. Subject 'test', Account: 'work smtp', Server: 'server.address', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"
****
I am told that:
this is because your server will not relay mail that arrives from outside it's local network
i.e. it will only accept mail that is addressed to your domain when that mail comes from the outside world

you can fix this on sme 5.6 by using this contrib
http://www.lordsfam.net/downloads/production/securemail/
that'll give you authenticated smtp to allow you to relay from outside

I have been looking at (downloading and installing) the RPMs. But have not succeeded as there are unsolved prerequisites in tiese packages. Therefore it seems that Damien Curtain's rpms are not without problems. I have for hours been trying to update my SME 5.6 with the Securemail RPMs mentioned above and keep getting this error message.

Oct 9 23:40:38 indsigt1 e-smith[4955]: S10update-rpm-system=action|Event|update-rpm-system|Action|S10update-rpm-system|Start|1065735626 36988|End|1065735638 554579|Elapsed|12.517591

Where do I find the RPM: 'cvm >= 0.11'

I have then tried to download these packages, but in vain.

How to do this the easy way. I'm not too familiar with all these packages. I would like to have one package that includes everything. Getting mighty tired of this looking around for RPMs. And then when trying to install them - there are new dependencies to worry about. What is this???

Sorry for my obvious frustration - please help

All I want is to upgrade my SME 5.6 to run Secure e-mail. This is not rocket science - somebody must be able to create a simple RPM for this...

Please

Go to http://pagefault.org/code/e-smith.shtml#securemail and follow the step by step instructions. You can download the rpms from links on that page.

Thanks George.

Now I need to change the port on Mailfront:
Note that once you have ticked this for smtp you need to change the port to 465 as mailfront does not yet support TLS.

How to do this?

Thanks

Does anyone know if this issue applies to 6.0, and if so - will this, or some other (similar) contrib or work around, be able to address it?  I have run into this myself from time to time.

Thanks...

Jim,

Did you ever get a response on this one?  I can receive mail on the new server but cannot send because I get the following error:

553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.

Using Outlook 2003.

This has been covered here many, many times.

You can only send (relay) outgoing mail via the server from the local network of the server. The server will only accept mail which it will deliver locally (i.e. "my list of allowed domains") from any other network address (to prevent exploitation by spammers).

On the WAN side you should the local mail server (e.g. your ISP's) to send mail.

Consider an analogy - when you go on a vacation, and send postcards to friends, you don't send them back to your home town to give them to the Post Office there - you post them at the local Post Office.

There is a contrib to allow athentication on smtp from outside to send mail through your sever, search for secure mail on the forum.
