seperate mail users for virtual domains
« on: October 27, 2003, 12:23:31 AM »
Hi,
I have searched but found nothing, so I am asking here.

I have three virtual domains on esmith 5.6.  They have websites but also email.

Now when I make a user "info" or "jake" on the server, all these domains get these users as valid email users.

But what I want is to give each domain its own list of users. When I make
jake@domain1.com I do not want jake@domein2.com automatically.

Is there a way to achieve this? It seems like a quite natural thing to expect from a mailserver?

greetings

It may be a natural way for a mail only server to do things, but it's not the way SME's vision of how one company, one server works.  Darrel May has a How-To on Contribs.org that will allow you to manually set up the server so "info@domain1.com" will go to a particular user and "info@domain2.com" will go to a different user.  Once Contribs.org is back online (at least I can't get there right now) you can check for Darrel's contributions.

Hi,

I did read that one before, but it does not do what I want.

It creates user fred, but for all virtual domains.

What I want is to create user fred, but only for domain A, not for B.

I understand I can make user "info: for one domain, and then redirect that to fred. But that is not what I want. I want to have user fred only for domain a.

But it is certainly a place to start.

I will see howto get from there to what I want.

Perhaps make users like fred.domain. And than clear for most domains the
"www.domain.com:alias-localdelivery".

If I find a good way I will post it here, but any tips are still welcome!

greetings

What you're looking for is available at dungog.net.

They sell a few products for SME server, and thier virtual domain project is awesome.  It does exactly what you want, letting you set user joe apply to domain1.com but not domain2.org.  It allows you to specify the default user for each domain (the catchall address).

It's integrated into the server-manager, installation was simple.  Good use of $33.

Speaking of dungog.net, has anyone used their "rsync & backup" or "anti-virus" addons?

Best,
Thad

Hi Thad,

I just purchased the Virtual Domain rpm from Dungog. When I try to install via my 'Server Manager' 'Update System' menuitem I get this weird looking page to the right where normally you'd see the results of the update (logfile).

It shows a number of

Nickname
__________
Password
__________

Login fields. This is odd! What is happening here and how do I install this particular RPM?

Cheers

And when I try to login using these fields (as I normally would), it says 'Page cannot be found!'.

Hmm

Sorry guys,

I just had to install it from Console and then close browser and re-login. It works beautifully.
