When accessing my server (6.0 Beta 3) I can authenticate OK and print to my printserver OK.  However if I try to access a server share I am denied access. If I try to access other PC's on the network I am told that the server is not configured for "transactions".

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

When you are remote, are you logging in using a username and password you use at the office?  Try setting both to be the same as at the office.

I connect to the internet using a standard ISP connection, I then use the VPN connection which uses my same login details (name, password & domain) as if I was connected locally.  Authentication is confirmed and all appears to be OK until I try to connect to the shared drives. I am given an IP address from the server etc.

Kevin,

My first email was regarding the remote Windows PC, not the VPN login.  Make sure your logged in on the remote system using exactly the same username and password you would use on a PC at the office.

If your using Windows 95/98, you need to turn on MS networking so your prompted to enter a password at logon.  If the user name and password are identical to what you use at the office, it should work.  If the resources you seek are on a XP Professional PC, you will run into trouble since you must be a domain user (and authenticated) by default.

good luck,

I'm using Windows 2000 Pro, The initial login when windows starts is the same as used when connected locally and the same as that used when initiating the VPN connection.
The manual on the Mitel website mentions "certificates" although as I am able to authenticate with the Server I am assuming this is all OK?

Kevin,

If your using the same Windows Login user/pass for your PC at the office & the remote PC & the VPN login, permissions might not be your problem.  I don't think a server certificate is used with PPTP (Microsoft).

Have you verified basic networking is functioning?  Can you ping the internal IP of SME?  Can you ping another workstation on the office LAN from your remote system?

I can ping all workstations and the server connected to the Network. If I use FTP I can get to the "ibays" etc on the server.
It's probably just a setting on my laptop that needs changing !

I thought I was getting the hang of this networking ?
