user-panel behavior on 6.0b3
« on: November 05, 2003, 05:52:49 AM »
I have installed the dungog user-panel on a 6.0b3 server and get strange behavior on some of the user-panel screens. Notably, after delegating the ability to add/modify users, that screen will not show the "add user" button even though it properly lists the users. Where the "add user" button and text normally appears are the phrases:

FORM_TITLE
FIRSTPAGE_DESC

I noticed this on several screens, but the add user button is a must have in my situation. This is a 6.0b3 with the latest updates (as of 10/28) and I was careful to use the 6.0 designated user-panel rpm: e-smith-userpanel-1.6.0-1.noarch.rpm

Has anyone else seen this behavior and know of a fix? I have the usual situation of wanting designated users to add new users but not have full admin access. Is there some other way to do this on 6.0b3 other that the user-panel contrib?

Thanks for any assistance,
jim

While I have not gotten the add user button to show up on the user-panel, I did dig up the reference to the problem from dungog that I missed initially:

SME 6

"The delegating of admin functions or SME 6 server-manager panels has a few problems. Depending on the panel, translation descriptions may not work correctly which makes it difficult to understand the instructions. Some panels won't work at all because required links and buttons are missing. It's possible to reuse panels from ealier versions of SME if they exist. All Dungog Network panels work under the user manager. "

I'm afraid fixing this will take far more programming skills than I have. In the interim, I need for a couple of designated non-technical users to add email accounts for a significant number of users (about 180 to start with, then others on a daily basis.)

Note that the new "users" only need email - not file server or gateway access of any kind. Anyone have a suggestion of the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks as always,
jim

As an interim workaround, would the Lazy Administrators Toolkit scripts contrib help here ?

It's at contribs.org but I don't know if it is comp[atible with 6.0b3.

Ray,
Thanks for the tip. I have looked at the LAT at http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/mblotwijk/HowToGuides/batch-tasks-howto.htm http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/mblotwijk/HowToGuides/batch-tasks-howto.htm

but it does not address 6.0. It may work and the ability to add users in batch mode will help me a lot shortly so I will do some testing as soon as I can. I am concerned about email since SME changed IMAP packages.

If anyone has tried the Lazy Admin Toolkit on 6.0b3, please let us know how it worked.
