Ok guys...

Swimming out into the deep end of the pool....   .  Getting in over my head, but I want to play / learn / see if I can make this work.  I grabbed the PHPMyAdmin package that I learned about from this thread -->  http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=18878.msg74629#msg74629

So far, I've managed to get the rpm installed and have the phpmyadmin web interface staring at me in my browser at my server via https://myserver/phpmyadmin.  I did a 'create database' and named it netjuke, per the how-to at the 2nd link above.

'K.... . now I'm done!  lol!!  Can you say C L U E L E S S ??   lol!!  The how-to says that I'm to create a dB called netjuke and a username of netjuke.  I don't see where I can create users in the web interface.  I've started a cursory (not much @present) google searching on how to create dB's in mysql.   I'm guessing some cmd line wizardry will be in order here from within the mysql environment / prompt.  This is where I'm at....  just getting started.

I'll wait and see what you guys have to say....  any ideas, tips, good links to mysql for idiots type links, etc?

Hi Jim,
Good choice with netjuke, I didn't use PHPmyadmin, but followed the excellent howto at:

It's all command line, but will soon have you listening to those mp3s.

Jim,
Try the "Privileges" link on the first page of PHPmyAdmin. I missed it the first time too. This should take you to a page where you can add users.

While don't you use NetJuke to add users? Just log in with the admin account you set up initially. You will then see a added button on the webpage's naviagation bar "ADMIN". From there you get a page for adding and editing users.

Wow!!  All sorts 'o good stuff coming back at me in quick time.    Martin, Jim, shaitan, et all....  thanks guys.  Jim - I'll have a look-see at your reference 'cause it'll hopefully be blindingly easy - but Martin - I ~definately~ plan on looking at the link(s) that you provide for getting up and running.  Hell - if I can do it w/out having to add some other contrib (the phpmyadmin thing) then why not?

I started doing this on a 6.0 box that I run at work.  I'm doing it now on my own machine here @the house.  I'm following you're how-to verbatim (except for the password).  I'm now at the point where I'm at the netjuke install form - where you have to tell it what the DB Type is, DB Host, DB User, etc...  know where I'm at?

( ok - don't everyone laugh.... )

The next line after the DB User is DB Password.  You're how-to is showing that enclosed in "quotes"  <-- like that.  The actual password doesn't have to be quoted does it???

I know, I know....  shameful question...  but really.  I don't know!  lol!!  I do know that sql style db's have thier own little languages and syntatical rules that have to be followed - but I have never worked with any of them.

I'm just gonna go watch some television for a while and hope to see a reply from you or someone else shortly.  So far, so good though!  The how-to is dead on to this point!
