Network install of 6.0b3
« on: November 14, 2003, 08:28:01 AM »
My test box has a SCSI CD, and I've hit an (apparent) bug, where the CD is not properly recognized by the install routines. I've reported this to Mitel, who suggested trying an IDE CD drive. However, my test box is an old Dell server, and has no IDE interface other than the floppy drive. Meanwhile, as I would like to bring 6.0 up, I've tried the network install. This gets so far (about 75% through the RPMs), before it fails. I get an error that "the file /mnt/sysImage/var/tmphorde-2.2.1-1es00.noarch.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a bad package or bad media". Obviously, this is a bogus filename and path. The horde RPM of that name is part of the ISO, and I have reburned a CD after checking the checksum is valid, but I consistently get this error.

I've also looked into a PXE install, but my NIC is not able to use PXE.

Has anyone successfully installed 6.0b3 over HTTP?

Thanks,

Have you got a spare SCSI controller. (newer one)
It will also help if you send the hardware configuration.

I had all kinds of problems getting the 6.0b3 iso to burn properly. I used Nero on ym XP machine and created 3 coasters. THe iso checksums where good. I finally tried using cdrecord (look around for the contrib) and the burned the cd perfect and installed fine.

I had problems installing 6.0b3 on several servers...from Dell PE2600's to an old HP NetServer.  The CD (one of several I burned)  would install fine on an IDE workstation, but not a server with a SCSI disk drive.  I finally used a 6.0b2 CD and was able to install successfully.  I then applied the patches to get 6.0b2 to b3.

I reported this to bugs, but I didn't have another available server to test with.  I now have another new PE2600 that I received this week and will try to install a newly burned CD with.

Now if I can just find my 6.0b2 CD......

Okay, I installed a newly downloaded copy of SME 6.0b3 that I checked the MD5 Checksum onto a new Dell PE2600.
The install proceeded without any problems.
