This is where you have to change the type of service you have from a home/resi account, to a business class account.
If you are maintaining a home office and want all the functionality of unrestricted ports and static IP's, then you should consider committing to a business class of service for your home. We struggled for 4 years with dynamic ip's that changed so often that the router had to be restarted every weekend, we also endured the blocking of ports (80, 25,...) which made it harder to configure a "normal" server. So we decidied that the days of $39.95 @month Cable service was done and over. The price of a business class service with Cox Communications here in San Diego is around $100 @month with a yearly contract. But the inbound speed is comparible to a full T1 !!!! The upload around 256-384kbps.
Anyone who already has DSL or Cable who wants the full use of their SME server, and who is serious about their in/out internet access, should call their ISP today and get a static ip with no port blocking. And then setup SME as a dedicated gateway/Server.
