e-smith 4.1 and external ISDN modems - LASAT SPEED II
« on: June 20, 2001, 02:14:49 PM »
we have an e smith box running happily as a gateway machine with an analogue dial up. it all works fine.

we have now moved to a 64k isdn dial up and have procured the LASAT SPEED 2 isdn modem. this works fine on our winbloze machines, but refuses to work on e-smith (i was lead to believe by these forums that they should just work)
however the thread below mentions some files need changing :-

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=1792.msg5956#msg5956

i know the lasat works with linux - it is stated on their website :-

http://www.eicon.com/support/helpweb/lasat/faq47.asp

Note concerning Speed II:
According to present experiences, the LASAT Speed II modem works without any need to patch a file. Should you experience otherwise, we would like to hear about it.

The procedure should be as follows:

The ISDN TA can be set to use 2 strings:
String 1: AT\P1&B2&D0 (RFC 1662)
String 2 ATQ0

Automatic modem detection is not advisable, in stead you should manually correct the file /etc/wvdial.conf

We suggest that you configure the first 7 lines as follows:

Modem = /dev/ttyS2 (COMport installation)
Init1 = AT\P1&B2&D0
Init2 = ATQ0
Phone = ISP phonenumber
Username = ISP username
Password = ISP password
Baud = 115200

where do i make these changes ???

detailed instruction would be nice as im struggling to get to grips with e-smith  :)

please help..

thanks in advance
