empty mail log
« on: December 09, 2003, 07:20:11 PM »
I use BLAT to page people, and recently a w98 machine stopped paging, but no errors were reported.  This usually means a mail server has a problem, but which one?

From the SME console 'mail' succesfully sent the message, so I decided to check the log

EMPTY  , in fact many empty logs!

I've searched around, ( this forum and LINUX in general )and can't find any guidance for SME mail on how to enable. diable the mail logs!  ( They are not in the standard LINUX location, to begin with )

Reinstalling ( blat -install ) seemed to restart the w98 machine, but I'd like to get the mail logs working!  ( not sure if it was a fluke and paging was restarted anyway )

to make matters worse, I'm now getting messages I 'sent' an hour ago, but the timestamp on the pager is current time,  and I'd like to know what really happened, ( was the paging service off line? was the sme box stuck ? )

So any advice on how to configure the mail logs ( and how to get it to message me like the RAID monitor does ) would be greatly appreciated

It might be helpfull to let us know which version of SME your using and which updates have been applied.

Try looking at the qmail-current and mailfront-smtp logs instead. I think the maillog file has been unused since SME 5.5.
