dialIN ppp
« on: December 11, 2003, 06:40:12 AM »
my sme5.6 connects via ADSL route (ie 2 Lan cards).
is it possible to put an external modem on ttyS0/1 and enable dialin on it to start a ppp link so people can retrieve email when away?
(we have a non-static IP, so webmail is hard and we want all the email onto the PC)

if so i assume (given a suitable modem), I can restict the phone numbers allowed to dialin?

seasons best wishes
& TIA

Hello!

I would reconsider your options.
This would mean that people have to dial-into the server. You sugested adding a modem, and that would allow only one person to get his mails. 2 people cant ring into the modem at the same time (unless you get an ISP modem..... and you have that many lines....)

My opinion would be to implement VPN. You could speak to your provider and get them to give you an DNS entry. This would  only cost a couple of euros.....

If your ISP cant help you then you can use one of the other DNS services that are available.

The users on my server, all use webmail when away. I quite like it. although I will be installing pop before smtp now.
