Success story: 5.6, PHP, MySQL

Home LAN, 5.6U5 (does U6 actually have anything new?  It kept telling me "already installed" when I tried to install it.), running on an old Gateway PII/233, 256 megs RAM.  Have been wanting to update MySQL & PHP to take advantage of new features in InfoCentral and NetJuke.  So I found these:

MySQL update
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/star/mitel/contrib/howto-mysql4.txt

PHP/Horde/IMP update
http://www.leiinc.com/repository/Linux/Mitel_SME_Server/HowToGuides/sme56_imp-horde-php_upgrade.htm

NOTE:  The latter did NOT install fully ... the e-smith-phpmyadmin failed to unpack with a  language problem ... sorry, I didn't copy the message!  So I installed PHPMyAdmin 2.5.4 from here (after removing my old one)
http://wiki.contribs.org/index.php?module=article&view=10&MMN_position=33:33

InfoCentral 1.2.5 (http://www.infocentral.org) got upset about PHP register_globals so I enabled .htaccess support from here
http://wiki.contribs.org/index.php?module=article&view=10&MMN_position=33:33

and all went swimmingly.

Next up:  an updated HOWTO on NetJuke 1.0RC2 on SME 6.0 ...

Hi,

contribs.org is 'planning' to host all (old & new) how-to's in 1 central repository.

Stand by and once this is repository is established please donate it to the benefit to us all.

(once ready, how-to's can be submitted in HTML format, plain text and tikiwiki syntax)

Thanks.

Yay!  He did it so I don't hafta.  I'll run through it on a fresh 6.0 install and see if it's still the same setup, then let him know.

Where *exactly* on contribs.org did you find 2.5.4? All I found was a broken link ...

Hmmm, you're right, I didn't check those links after copying/pasting.  The PHPMyAdmin AND .htaccess links are under NightSpirit's contribs in the files area.  Thanks NightSpirit!

For those other newbies planning to update SME 6.0 with these instructions, the following notes:

a) MySQL update
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/star/mitel/contrib/howto-mysql4.txt
There is a minor typo in step 4.
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld restart" should be "/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql restart"
I also used the 4.0.16-0 rpms instead of the 4.0.15-0 rpms and had no problems.

b) PHP/Horde/IMP update
http://www.leiinc.com/repository/Linux/Mitel_SME_Server/HowToGuides/sme56_imp-horde-php_upgrade.htm

This update complained that several installed rpms were newer on 6.0 - however, there seemed to be no ill effects.

In step 12, the horde-update event seems to be missing from 6.0. Instead, I did the usual post-upgrade event followed by a reboot.

It sure would be nice to see a sinlge resource for howto's etc.
that was easily searchable / easy to navigate . . .
and all brought up to work with 6.0 Final !
