Upgrading from 5.6 to 6.0 final
I have started to consider upgrading one of my web servers from sme 5.6 to 6.0 final. The server is a Compaq proliant. It has duel 400mh processors 512 ram and a 20g raid 5.
I have tested almost all of the contribs I use on my 5.6 server on a test 6.0 server and they work fine. But more testing is required.
Here is where I am thinking I will run into a problem. My production server is duel processor and my test server is not. A year ago when I moved my web server from its old home to the Compaq I couldn’t just back it up to desktop and restore to the proliant. It has been to long for me to remember why it didn’t work. That upgrade was just from 5.6 to 5.6 and it gave me problems. I assume it is because of the different cornels from duel to single processor.
How I would like to do it is move all the data from the proliant 5.6 server to my test 6.0 server. I have a lot of users with imap folders with all there email. But my biggest concern would be moving my web page that has a perl care database for used cares. I didn’t set it up myself and I am not sour how I would move it to my test server.
When everything is on my 6.0 test server I will put it in production in place of the proliant 5.6 server.
I can then format the proliant 5.6 server install 6.0 and my contribs and move the data back to the upgraded proliant
Questions.
1: how do I move perl mysql and php data base and user information to the 6.0 server? Where it all is located.
