vpn on 6.0 prob

Ok I have run into a problem that I can't seem to fix. I have searched the forms and found other people with the same problem but no fix seem to have been found. I am sorry to send this via the developers form but it is where the most experienced people are at the moment.

I just set up a sme 6.0 server for a client. All my other clients are 5.6 or windows 200/2003 server.

My personal network has a smoothwall firewall 2.0 and sme 5.6 web and email server in a DMZ and an SME server as a domain controller. Everything works fine. I can vpn to and from it just fine.

I use pptp vpn to make changes to client's networks. I can connect to any of the 5.6 or windows 2/3k servers with no problem I currently have set up.

My 6.0 client on the other hand I can't connect to via vpn. I made sour to enable it in the users part as that is an added step with 6.0. I also added 5 pptp connections as that enables pptp.

Now when I try to connect from my office  I get a 619 error can't connect. From my windows xp computer. From the office with the 6.0 server when I am sitting at one of the computer that is logged on to the domain and try to connect to the vpn server I get the same error.

Now here is where it gets strange. If I take a laptop and dial out to the internet with my dial up account and log on to the server with vpn it works. I can map my network drives and everything. The laptop is an xp computer.

When I look in the log files the connections that are falling are getting a gre error. I think gre is associated with protocol 47.
(jan 12 21:41:06 noah pptpd[2728]: GRE: xmit failed from decaps_hdlc: Operation not permitted)

Now I have also noticed that my SMTP and pop ports are open on the server. I do not have them open to the outside world as of yet via the server manager. I have looked into this as well and a few people have suggested it is a firewall error and it can be fixed.

Could this be impacting my pptp connections as well?

Why would the dile up work but no other connections?

Have any of you hade the same problem?

Have you found a fix?

Is it a bug?

i had this problem to but i noticed that if you look in the server-manager of the system by users there's a admin account that you can modify and there is a option VPN that you have to change to YES i haven't tested yet but maybe that's your problem

I had a similar problem. Whenever I would try to VPN, I would get an error 619 and wouldn't be able to connect. As far as I can tell, it is an issue with SME 6.0 and how it handles PPTP. The only situation where I ran into the error was when I was connecting from behind an SME 6.0 server and connecting to another SME 6.0 server. SME 6.0 must have some issue or bug where when two SME 6.0 servers try to VPN to each other, the connection is flaky. I hope they have a fix in the works for this.

Hope this helps!
