This probably is mentioned in the documentation somewhere else, and I just missed it.
The user name required for i-bay password dialogs is the name of the i-bay itself. This must seem very obvious to most people and the writers of the e-smith manual, but I scratched my head for a second about this as I expected the password dialog to be asking for a system user name. My wish is for a clearer statement of the i-bay user names for password dialogs in the manual.
Thanks for the wonderful GPL'ed gateway and server that e-smith already is. It answered so very many of my wishes for a excellent Linux server distribution.
