Can you please help Im running around in circles - I had a major power failure and motherboard power supply fried, backup hard drive had died the night before so I backed everything back up to the server only to wake to find the said crashed server

(, rebulit machine from ground up now running duron 750 mirrored 40 gig hard drives 64 mb . I love it very much no problem there. My problem is this during the crash was unable to use old hard drive to reboot machine, message reads - [
autodetecting RAID arrays
autorun ...
...autorun DONE.
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesytem) readonly.
Freeing unused kernel memory: 64k freed
auto: auto: no such file or directory
Now I dont mind not rescuing the boot record or even using the drive as Ive built another. My problem is that I need the stuff thats on that drive but for the life of me I cant find anywhere in the documentation a way to read the disk let alone retrieve the data. 2 questions -
1: is there a way to look at the files on the disk without initiating the boot sequence and if so how
2: can I read the data using another os such as windows ( I know its probably a silly question and I hate to mention the "W" word here). I am desperate please help.
