Win98 to E-smith VPN drops connection
« on: June 28, 2001, 09:48:41 PM »
I have esmith setup as a firewall/router for the cable modem connected to my windows 98 box in my office.

ie: internet==>E-smith==>OfficeComputer

I allowed VPN access on the e-smith box and am now trying to connect to the esmith box in my pffice from my home using VPN over my dial up connection on my laptop.

I set up a dialup connection using M$ VPN adapter and my esmith's ip address. After I start my dial up connection I open the VPN dial up connection on the laptop and it says:

verifying connection... the window closes and then a second later I get a window asking if I want to reconnect because my connection was terminated.

Any idea what is the cause of this? Is there any more info you need?

TIA
Steve

search the phorums because there has been a fair bit on this.  Be sure you have the DUN 1.4 upgrade from Microsoft.  I had to logon  (this would be at your laptop) using a valid username/password for the e-smith box, but I believe this is a consequence of lack of info on my part :-)

I had the same problem.

Make sure you have 128bit VPN update (live update) if it does not show up (because it has already been installed) go into the installed section (not sure exactly what it is called but the hyperlink is on the same page) re-install it as installing over modules over top can delete files (ie5 etc)

Then under DUN, SETTINGS, CONNECTIONS, SECURITY TAB make sure you have require secure connections (or something like that, the middle one)

If all other config is right this should work, worked for me

good luck
