Dialup Servers get IBays
« on: November 06, 2000, 07:48:30 AM »
Hi,

The general theme seems to be that E-Smith servers with dial-up connections and I-Bays don't mix (or at least aren't 'supported' in the normal sense).

Is there any great technical reason for this? And if so, can we (, the 24x7 modem connected crowd,) get it fixed in the next patch/release?

I'm aware that it probably doesn't fit into the 'normal' comercial world of needs... but it still would be *very* nice. That way, the people to need a low-bandwidth, 'trickle' style access to a home/biz server aren't left out the in the cold Ibay-wise.

Just a thought...

Correct. The current release doesn't include Dynamic DNS support for dialup.

No, it is just a lack of technical resources to develop and test all the features that users are asking for.

I believe that my latest personal contribution e-smith-base RPM contains the required fix. If it doesn't work for you, or for anyone else out there, please contact me via the developers mailing list, devinfo@lists.e-smith.org, and tell me what doesn't work, and you can help me debug the problem.

Regards
