official suport for PHP and mySQL

Hi,

why can't we offical support PHP and mySQL inside e-smith. Both features are used from many people around the world.

I think we need the support of this features inside the system, to get a better integration inside the admin system and don't let the user manualy change the configuration and make some mistakes.

Regards
Andi

Hi Maiki,

if you read the documentation you will find the following:

1.4.6. Additional open source software
With this release, we are including several open source software packages that advanced users may find helpful. These are
unsupported packages. They are installed primarily because other components (such as webmail in the case of PHP) require them:
• MySQL - the popular SQL database engine
• PHP - the PHP web scripting language for the development of dynamic web pages
• Taper - an optional open source tape backup solution for those who wish an alternative to the flexbackup program used by default
You can read more about these software packages in Chapter 17, Additional Software.

Andi although they say its  an unsupported package they come installed and ready to go. The e-smith distribution of having these beautifully configured in a full secure server install in about 10mins flat is as far as I'm concerned  "support" . As a programmer I haven't got the time to fiddle with server installs as programming takes up my time (php and mysql). However with e-smith its different as I can make a cup of coffee and have a fresh install up and running for a new client in no time. As far as support, the kind people at e-smith do not have to reinvent the wheel as theres heaps of support out there for what you want at places like www.php.net + a plethra of scripting sites with huge searchable archives. I'm sure you can get the support you need there.
