Upgrade to 6.0 breaks NT-rights
« on: December 17, 2003, 04:51:33 AM »
Hi all, and thank your fore the effort to keep alive the e-smith project.
I would sign up too, if I had anything to contribute. Perhaps later.
I have come across a problem, though:
Since my upgrade to 6.0 last Saturday, my Win2K Client can no longer download the Documents and Settings folders because of an alleged ownership problem. Has anyone else sxperienced this ?

Greetings WyRon

Solved the problem presently, but please don't ask me how.
It involves retiring your workstation from the domain, giving it another name and rejoining.
After that your user-config is broken, and needs some adjusting within local users and groups, that is if you remember the local administrator password. If not, well, just reinstall the workstation and start from scratch. Luckily, I only needed just over an hour to walk through the obvious password-possibilities, before I could get my hands on the local users and groups (I'm still shaking).
All's well that ends well, I guess.

Sincere Greetings

gpedit.msc to solve "Windows did not load your roaming
« Reply #3 on: April 07, 2004, 11:11:53 AM »
Don't know if it'll  help you. I had to use gpedit.msc to solve (part of) my problems. See Microsoft :

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327462           -----------------------------------------------------
Event ID: 1526
Severity: Error

Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile.
Changes to the profile will not be copied to the server when you logoff.
Windows did not load your profile because a server copy of the profile folder already exists that does not have the correct security.
Either the current user or the Administrator's group must be the owner of the folder. Contact your network administrator.
-------------------------------------------------------

To Turn Off the New Check for Existing Roaming User Profile Folders
A new computer policy that is named "Do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profile Folders" exists under
Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles in Group Policy Editor.
In Windows 2000 SP4, the new computer policy exists under
Computer configuration\Administrative Template\System\Logon in Group Policy Editor.
Administrators can use this policy to turn off the ownership check for existing roaming user profile folders and to revert to the Windows XP behavior. This new policy prevents Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2000 SP4 from checking for correct permissions on a user's roaming profile folder. In Windows XP without SP1 and versions of Windows 2000 prior to SP4, no checks are performed for correct permissions if the profile folder already exists.

Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2000 SP4 do not copy files to or from the roaming profile folder if all these conditions exist:
You turn off or do not configure this setting.
The roaming user profile folder exists.
Neither the user nor the Administrators group is the owner of the folder.
If you turn on this setting, the behavior is the same as Windows XP without SP1 and versions of Windows 2000 prior to SP4.

?? Old news . . Well, you're dead right there!
The posting you quote dates back to december 17, and I can assure you that back then it was certainly not old news to me!
Please, msoulier, don't waste your time this way - we need your efforts in so many other ways. :-)
Greetings
