VPN 6.0 final VPN 718 error (log files inc)
« on: December 30, 2003, 07:14:51 AM »
Hi All,

I've set up a 6.0 final server on ADSL and am trying to connect to it from an outside winxp pro computer (the winxp pro computer connects to other e-smith 5.5 versions).

users/admin are VPN enabled.

I'm getting a 718 error message (cannot connect TCP/IP) on the winxp pro computer.
I've looked up the log file on and have the following log entries (all of them at the bottom in case quoting wrong bits of the log.)
Dec 30 10:58:51 noah pptpd[5904]: GRE: Discarding duplicate packet
...
Dec 30 10:58:53 noah kernel: divert: not allocating divert_blk for non-ethernet device ppp1
....
Dec 30 10:59:26 noah pppd[5905]: CCP: timeout sending Config-Requests

I looked up the GRE error in the forum and found entries about 5.6 re
disabling pptp-conntrack-nat and pptp-nat modules
http://www.mail-archive.com/devinfo@lists.e-smith.org/msg11982.html
But I don't know if this is relevant.

Is VPN broken in 6.0 final ? or am I doing something stupid (quite possible!)

thanks everyone

Why would you have to open any ports?  Shouldn't they already be opened for the VPN that's built-in?

I have the same problem

Sounds like the problem is with your XP Pro. Have you applied SP4 ?

You might also look into applying the XP registry patch located on your SME server at /home/e-smith/files/server-resources/regedit/winxplogon.reg
