improved search ability on new contribs.org site

Dear contribs.org

Your new site looks good, lots of features to satisfy some of the negative comments being recently made.
Having said that I feel the effectiveness of the search tool could be better. I refer to my recent bug report to the bug tracker system and commend Jeff on his quick feedback and resolution.

contribs.org search engine not finding all occurrences
Description  Just looking at the new contribs.org site.
I was trying the search engine, and while it is impressive in it's ability
to find results throughout the site, it appears to not find ALL ocurrences.

I searched for backup2ws and amongst other things found the Web link to
/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/Backup2ws/

but it did not find the Web link to
/contribs/dmay/smeserver/6.x/beta/backup2ws/

Perhaps there is an indexing problem or some other issue that may also
affect other searches.

The site cannot search the actual file libraries. It will search the weblinks and all of the other modules but there is no way for us to add searches to a file directory structure.

Suggestion: Pls add a comment to the weblink indicating the 6.x version is there as well.

Jeff, Your bug note re "The site cannot search the acutal file libraries", suggests that the effectiveness of the search tool is therefore limited.
Is it up to the contrib poster to set up a web link correctly for each and every item they wish to be found by a search ?
If contributors do not do this, then the search tool is not really doing its job. Is there not a better way ?

This is not a bug. It is simply outside our current capabilities to search the file libaries. The authors and community need to keep weblinks active and accurate. Please take further discussion on this to the forums.

What do other users think, are your searches finding everything ?

Regards
Ray Mitchell

The search should find anything that is included in the xoops framework.  Every link in the main menu that brings up a page that has the framework of the new site should be searchable.  Those that do not bring up the framework will not be included.

Those that don't bring up the framework currently are Mailing Lists and Downloads.

There is currently no way to search these areas.  That is just how it is.  This is not going to change unless someone (you or someone else in the community) comes up with a way to seach those areas and integrate it into xoops.
