ADSL Dyndns Please help
« on: January 30, 2004, 12:50:32 PM »
hi,
Please bare with me, im rather new at all this.

i have sme6 and i want to be able to host a small web page.
My Problem : i have setup sme6 to the best of my capabilities. i have registered with dyndns.
i am connecting through a ADSL router and all seems ok. my first problem is this : when i configure the server i choose dynamic with dyndns and i enter my user name and password. all seems ok and in dyndns account it even shows my server's ip is in there ip databsae. BUT i cant connect to the test website. it cant resolve host, if i type in the ip it goes to the site. my 2nd prob. after 10 minutes of the server been up, i goto my dyndns acc and i get a message saying "Your Host, hardell.mine.nu is currently blocked for abuse" "The abuse system automatically blocks any hostname that repeatedly tries to update a hostname from the same IP"
i dont know how to check how often my server is updating.
Can someone please help. one other thing. my adslrouter has nat, is this going to cause problems. do i need to change anything else on my adslrouter.
Thanks
Warren

If you are connecting to the internet through an ADSL Modem/Router using NAT then you should be entering the dynamic dns registration on the router not on the SME server, as the public IP addess will be assigned to the router and this is what will change.
Also you'll probably need to open up port 80 on your router and forward any request to the IP address of your SME server.

If you can clarify how you have everything setup the forum will be able to help more.
