Access files from a web browser that is on an i-bay
« on: February 05, 2004, 12:47:58 AM »
I am looking for a contrib that will let me share files through a web page in one of my i-bayes. There has to be security of course. Would PHPFileExchange be the best one for the job? What other ones are out there. The files would have to be in an I-bay and be accessible internally but also accessible through the web page from off site.

Hi,
I setup a simular thing on my server. I set the ibay "Public access via web or anonymous ftp" to Entire Internet(password required outside local network) and put the files in the html folder. I mapped the html folder as a network drive on the windoze machines and no password is needed, connect via the internet (http://www.yourdomain.com/ibay_name)
and you need a password. Works for me, but if you have different users and you want to give them a unique user name and password you will have to install some sort of contrib, not sure which one. I did install a cgi script called locked area lite can be found here: http://www.locked-area.com/html/ but this allowed people to create their own user name and password and I am not a programmer so I couldn't get it set to request a password, rather than just anyone setting themselves up. I hope this helps.

Hi,
You can only download files. I think you need proftp contrib from here: http://www.dungog.net/sme/files/index.php
It allows you to set up ftp access for SME users and restricts the areas allowed (I think). Have a look and see what you think, please let me know if this works and if it is what you want. I amy try it myself though.

Del

Hi,
I have installed the proftp contrib from dungog.net and it works OK, but it doesn't really do what we want, it allows a user ftp access to upload and download files but I think you need to use a ftp program (I used leechftp)but I want (and I think you want the same) to be able to access from IE or Netscape. If anyone can suggest anything maybe they could post here, how about the .htaccess contrib? I don't know much about .htaccess or .htpasswd so I am at a lose at the moment. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Regards,
Del :-(
