I am looking for a portal to install on my SME 6.0
I looked at METADOT. Looks very nice.
I tried it first on an RH7.3 because it will be more difficult on SME for the configuration.
I guess my 7.3 is a little bit confused since it is quite old and I tried lot of things on it.
So after quite a few hours, it still didn't work.
I am sure I am not the first one to want a portal on SME.
I look through search but still not enough.
If somebody have an idea it will be appcreciated.

Thank in advance.

I'm looking at Twiggi - somewhere in these forums I've seen a recipe for installing it -- in the past I've also looked at phpwebsite and phpnuke -- anyone want to comment on the relative merits? I once did install metadot anfd liked it, but never put it in production ( not on SME either)

HI,
I have been using Twiggi for about 12 months, very good and easy to install. There is a contrib on this site by Darrell May, you can find it under his contribs in downloads. Search these forums for more help.

I have been looking at D. May's website and all over for the cookbook for twiggi -- I want to make it available for all users -- do I install in an ibay? what are the steps?

I've tested PostNuke on 6 final and can tell you it works fine. There has been some performance concerns raised and I don't think they were resolved.

In order to get METADOT work

1 - install mod_perl contrib
2 - in /etc/httpd

change
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi

to
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl

Don't forget to modify your templates to make sure you have the settings perminent...

Good luck.

Have you considered Xoops? This site is done with Xoops, and I assume the site his hosted on a SME server? I have set up a few Xoops sites (not on SME though) and it is excepionally easy to install and use.

Thanks for all your help on these forums.  I'd really like to check out METADOT but need more instructions than the above hint.

Well, I put together a HowTo for Metadot...

There might be some "bugs" so use it at your own risk.

Good luck...

Good Evening,

OK I'm going nutzoid. I've tried to follow the how-to and have had limited to no success. I downloaded all the files listed in the how-to plus the latest metadot v6.3.2. I've installed the phpmyadmin contrib with success even though I can't access the dadblame https://192.x.x.x/phpmyadmin page. I don't understand why this is the case. I've installed SME Server Custom ISO three times using a fresh clean "wipe-it-out" install. I've used the phpmyadmin contrib in the past with no problems out of the box. More than likely, I'll do another fresh clean "wipe-it-out" install again to hopefully recoup.

When reading the how-to, it seems that I'm going forward, backing up, then forward again. I don't have any errors when installing the perl rpms. I don't have any errors when installing any contribs needed.

The errors I have are in relation to the phpmyadmin as well as accessing metadot via the browser. I'm getting your not authorized message when accessing http://192.x.x.x/metadot.

Any ideas on the command lines that would replace the screen shots of phpmyadmin? I don't understand the language #1 and #2, I can't access phpmyadmin anyways.

ANY HELP OR IDEAS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!! I like the looks of the metadot project and would like to implement it on a production server to take care of my web server front end.

I'm open to xoops but I like the looks of metadot better at this point.
