I'd like to enhance SME 5.6 to the latest since it now appears to work.

Then I would like to start using SME as my Internet gateway.

This, I think, should cure the awful system freeze when I commence using the server from XP Pro.

How, how and how?

I don't know your 'net setup, but in general set up in the server-manager as a 'server-gateway'.  Other settings are specific to your setup.

Which freezes, server, or XP client?

XP Pro seems to freeze for a couple of minutes at a time, or rather, Windows Explorer freezes.
