Topic: Mainboard dead

Dear all:

I encounter a problem is the mainboard dead. I need to replace a new main board. The data on harddisk is ok but I can't start it up with the new main board & new CPU. It load at "Load SME........" then reboot & reboot.

OLD CPU & board is AMD2200+ & SIS735 chipset.
other CPU tried is P200 & old board
AMD k350 & old board.
On AMD 2500+ & VIA 333, it can boot but with some error.

Any suggestion?

Here's one suggestion,
Clone the hard drive.  Use the cloned drive to perform an upgrade with the server software version you are using.  If this works, do it to the original hard drive.

Just a thought.

Dear CC:

I tried before but SME5.6 don't let me select the upgrade & fresh install only. I move the CMD680 ATA 133 card with HD together due to some old board can't work with BIG HD.

I think Server can run 1 or 2 years normally. When the board is dead, I think I can'y buy the same model and / or same CPU

Shall I re-compile the kenrel for the new CPU?!?!?

You should be able to upgrade the mainboard with no problems. I'm able to move the sme hd to other boxes. The only time I get the same type of error when it doesn't like the ram.
