DNS problem with dialup
« on: July 27, 2001, 05:53:28 AM »
Hi all,

  Once my modem stablishes the connection (not too much problem here) I can't get DNS to work. I have proved plenty of combinations but none of them seems to work.

  * ESGS as primary DNS
  * My ISP as primary DNS
  * Windows ME using ESGS as DNS server
  * Windows ME using ISP as DNS
  * Web Direct connection
  * Web trough Proxy connection (192.168.100.1:3128)

  I have a fresh 4.1.2 install with e-smith-base-4.4.0-21 update. I have an EXTERNAL 3COM US Robotics 56K Fax Modem. The modem dials (once I modified the ATDT comand to just ATD) without problem. I can ping external IP adddresses but NOT using the textual url (can't resolve the name error).

  The internal ethernet uses 192.168.100.1 IP address. Two Windows clients use 192.168.100.3 and 4 fixed, with 192.168.100.1 as their gateway. The mask is 255.255.255.0

  I'm completely lost. I had the same problem with SUSE 7.0 :((( Sadly, I have no problem with Windows 98 OSR2 nor ME.

  Thanks in advance for any help.

try adding a nameserver in /etc/resolve(.conf?) or the templete
i had dns failures intermittently and this fixed it
