Install only new server-manager
« on: February 26, 2004, 10:12:44 AM »
As I have read in the news section there is an alpha 6.0.1 version which has a "new" servermanager.

Since I have been using SME 6.0 for a while and everything is working finally, I wouldn't want to ruin this by installing a full 6.0.1. but I want to install the new server-manager. I think that it is a nice start for me using SME server "from the community".

Can anyone please advise how to get just the new server-manager layout?

This thread is perhaps relevant too.

As a commentary to the thread mentioned by jok11n, I did a --replacepkgs instead of --replacefiles. That worked a charm for me.
Just remember the signal-event and restart bits, and you should be home free.

If want to go one step further (and you have a spare machine) you can do what I did, I installed the devtools on a spare box, and then followed the how-to on rebuilding the iso and I have made two new iso images. The first one was version 6 with the bugfixes applied, and the second one was with the new look and feel also. Now when I want to do an install I can run a new box up fully patched in no time, the discs also work for upgrading, so if I have a box that hasn't had the patches installed, I can reboot with the disc in the drive and run an upgrade and it's all patched up in no time. Worth the effort if you have the time. It took me about an hour the first time as there a few errors in the how-to, but once I had that sorted I can now update an iso and rebuild it in a few minutes. I was thinking of editing the how-to that has been done and adding some hints to make it easier (for myself as well, so I don't forget the process later on) if anyone is interested I can post some details back here when I have done it.

new iso (with new server manager & patches)

I think would be very nice if you could update the iso howto.
I have an spare machine and could to try it.

I´d like to include the qmail + authentication patch too (so external users could send mail after authenticate!)
I have done this patch but do not tried yet. If you wish I can send it to you to test...

Thanks

Can you provide some info on what these add ons do, it's not something that I have used before, if you can post a link or email me the details. It may be possible to add them but I need a bit more info first, if you know your way around the system you should be able to do it yourself from the current how-to, there are just a few inaccuracies in the current document which can be a bit confusing but I think that might be because the instructions were originally for an earlier version where the directory structure may have been different (I think that's why, but I could be wrong)or maybe just some typo errors.
