SME6.0 IMAP Upgrade Bug/Outlook200x
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:09:15 AM »
I have upgraded several servers over the last few days and noticed that the imap folders don't always come through correctly.  In some instances there is a folder named Mail.relocated with some of the users folders underneath.

If I move one that has subfolders out from the Mail.relocated folder, I can't view any messages in the top most folder, ie:
Mail.relocated;Folder1
Mail.relocated;Folder1;Folder1.1
Mail.relocated;Folder1;Folder1.1;Folder1.1.1
 (moved in Outlook to)
Folder1
Folder1;Folder1.1
Folder1;Folder1.1;Folder1.1.1

The mail in Folder1 can't be shown with Outlook 2002 or 2003, though IMP can show them.  If I rename Folder1 in IMP to something else, then Outlook can see the messages.

I see the same "Mail.relocated" naming structure on my upgraded to 6.0 box. I assumed that this was how the process was supposed to work, as I have no documentation to compare against. Do you know how it's supposed to work, Steve?

I have a test box with a clean 6.0 install, but I haven't taken the opportunity to look at the email folder structure...

By the way, I thought UW-IMAP didn't support sub-folders (on 5.6)?

I don't know what the design was, but in practice it appears that if the upgrade routine doesn't know how to deal with a subdirectory, it keeps it in the mail.relocated directory.  When you move the directory, you are no longer able to view email items in the base directory.

5.x versions with UW-Imap allowed users to create sub-folders.  6.0 allows it as well.
