Installing SME
« on: March 02, 2004, 05:12:46 PM »
Hello!
I would like to run SME server, but I don't know which version is the best? Before I had RedHat 6, but now I want to install SME, server and gateway mode. Could somebody tell me which is the best version and what RPM-s I have to install after instelling SME?

It will be very nice, if someone put links here, where I can get these things.

Sorry for my bad English.

Hello,

I suggest you to install the last stable release :
Version 6.0
Concerning the RPMS to install after the installation, it depense on what you want to do of the server.
Watch the "Downloads" section of this site to get the last version of the SME-server.

Regards

Well, I expect this is smeserver-6.0unsupported.iso. So, but what about these SRPMS http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/smeserver/releases/current/SRPMS/
Are they necessary?
Besides this server must be a printing server, web server, FTP server and usual file server. But I read in this forum that SME have some kind of problem width printing. What's that?
Then I think I must upgrade PHP and MySQL. Is there RPMS for that? (What version of PHP is there by default?). Then I think there must be phpMyAdmin...
Can you suggest me some more RPMS? (Just for security or update).

Thanks

Hi Margus,
The srpms not required to install SME, just the iso.
Hope this helps.

Del :-)

.. printing problem was a bug for which there is a fix on contribs.

No one can tell you what else you need as you alone know precisely how you will use your server.

A recent post on these forums had people list out what they were running on their system - might be a good place to start; read & learn.

Don't try to put your system up (public) straight away if you intend on significant installations and upgrades.  Take time to learn how best to do it and to test it all in its final incarnation.

Finally, document EVERYTHING you change, update, or modify, so that if it all gets messed up it is far easier to put it back together.

Thanks, but at the beginning it looked fine but I just mentioned that some word documents it doesn't print. I tested it every way, but I can't solve this problem. It looks me if some kind of heading is in the doc then it hungs. My computer do not responds any more. (winxp) Why? I think I installed this rpm correctly...
