Groupware, Collaboration, How do you rate yours?
« on: March 03, 2004, 01:41:14 AM »
I have looked around for Groupwares, Collaboration and Knowledge sharing tools and there are many on offer. eg Groupware,PHProjekt,Sherpath, PHPGroupware, Post-Nuke, GreyMatter, phpBB 2.0.0, TWiki, Twiggi, etc... (thank you)

In summary, I am looking at installing a collaboration tool for a small group of 10 Sales people spread all around main-land Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.
They need to be able to log onto the SME Server (Ver 6.0 Final) in Sydney, to log their daily sales calls and orders, which would be linked to their customer database. Each employee area/section would be password protected.

If anyone has a similar situation as above and using a "groupware" tools sucessfully, could they provide me with some info on which one they are using.

Thanks

Mizou

I have used PHProjekt and Moregroupware extensively with an office of 8, PHProjekt is more stable and functional, but Moregroupware has a better interface and nicer features (with some bugs). I installed and tried most of the others you mention. Also tried OpenGroupware which is powerful, but complicated to configure on an SME box because it requires postgresql.

Ultimately we just upgraded to Suse Openexchange server 4.1 which is a great little product, however it needs to run on its own machine, and can't run on a mitel partition.

If you are looking for free, and simple I would use Moregroupware or PHProjekt. If you want  great flexibility and functionality with little hassle I would consider spending the money on OpenExchange Server.

Hi

Thanks everyone for your advice of the matter of Groupware.

To keep you up to date, I have downloaded and installed the more.groupware ( http://www.moregroupware.org/ )following a set of instructions located on Sleepy SME ( http://vanhees.homeip.net/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=15 ).

The setup went like a dream and I was up and running within 20 minutes.
A good selection of extra modules are on offer and very easy to install.

Couple of probs I found.

1. Size of email attachments are somehow limited, and I need to chase up the fix for it (saw something on sourceforge that I need to follow up)

2. Only import feature that I found on more.groupware so far was for "vcard" and I need to chase up info on importing a bunch of outlook pst file or comma separated file??

3. In my webmail setup, I am asked to define the location for my antivirus program..

* webmail2_settings_antivirusprog *:

I am currently using Clam Antivirus with Amavis support (installed from http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/ how to.)Can you help me there graviton? or anyone.

And finally, if you wish to look at other Groupwares how to, here is a complete list from contribs.org http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Groupware

Please note: The link to the more.groupware - "english howto" from contribs.org goes to the "french howto"

Cheers

MimerDesk - Great groupware for an internal intranet (would be best if integrated with sme user database)

Hi

I am currently testing more.groupware on my SME 6.0 Final and it all seem to be going well. (just a couple of little bugs which I am working through)

I also run osCommerce and would like to know if anyone has been able to use the ONE customer database with both osCommerce + more.groupware or if anyone has seen a howto regarding this matter.

Cheers

Here is a link for a Metadot HowTo.  Many thanks to Ergin for taking the time to put this together.

Metadot - Metadot is a popular open source portal software (GPL) recognized for its revolutionary ease-of-use. It provides content management (CMS) like file, page and link management, collaboration features like discussion forums and polls and personalization like My Yahoo.
