user-manager, can't get in outside local network
« on: March 04, 2004, 09:45:54 PM »
Hi!

I have just instaled sme 6.0 (earlyer i'd run 5.6) and can't get in at the following locations
https://domain.com/server-manager
https://domain.com/user-manager
i just get a 403 - you are not autorized to wiev this page

It is just when trying to access it from outside the local network.....

i had it to work on the sme 5.6, with no problems, and if i remember it corectly, i have made the same setting's in 6.0 areas of "remote access" and "local networks"

What do i need to change elsewhere to get it to work ?

Hello,

All I can think of is that your have incorrect settings in your Remote Management section of the Remote Access module. If you've made entries there, try removing them temporarily and see if it lets you in then. Other than that, just make sure in your browser you're choosing https:// not http://.

If this doesn't help, I suggest re-posting your article to the experienced user forum. Sorry, and good luck!

I have the same problem.
Using putty from outside, I can get into the console logging on as root, and into a lynx-version of the server-manager, logging on as admin.
But a web-connection to server-manager ? No dice.
It worked just fine in 5.5 and 5.6
Through VPN it should be possible, but my results so far are nil, except for the W2K-box I worked from. That had to be reinstalled since it lost its network setup, and nothing could persuade it to rejoin the domain.
Greetings

AFAIK this has been disabled in 6.x for more strict security reasons and to 'promote' the use of VPN.

Search the forums for recent topics on this.

One can however access the server-manager (or user-manager) by using the IP address, or the published name of the box (in my case mail.mydomain.com) from outside the local domain, i.e.
https://201.41.44.5/server-manager or https://mail.mydomain.com

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.

While adding local networks accessible through the external interface is blocked in 6.0, you can still permit server-manager access via the remoteaccess panel. Add the network desired and save. Works for me.

Access your server-manager from your local network.  Under the Security tab find the remote access link.  When the remote access page is displayed, find the area remote management.  Here you can specify IP addresses you wish to manage your server from.  You can limit to only single IP's by using a 255.255.255.255 subnet.
