Anyone read the review for SME Server in Linux format? 4 out of 10 the final score!
I'm no "Seasoned Linux Adminstrator" (only started seriously using Linux since suse 7), but I found it easy to install. Apart from getting the database to be seen by some web apps (works now), I've had no problems.
So what if the interface is non-standard? I see that as a security plus, and it stops people from assuming they know what they are doing.
Our community support is brill! My one and only problem was solved in hours.
I do agree that all the services included can lead to various attacks but its not that hard to lock them down.

The best bit is when they list the SME server has having no web admin! That's one of the bets bits IMHO.

The other big problem with this review is that it's for firewalls, while SME does a good job of bing a firewall it has many more jobs that it can do.  It's main aim certainly isn't a firewall at any rate.

That was quite a negative review for Linux Format. In the past they have been more supportive of SME Server.

However the review was for firewalls so some of their points were valid.

When the next 'stable' version is released maybe the UK community should try to promote it to Linux Format.

As I read the article and saw several "ERRORS" on the other revieved applications as well. Have they tried the products at all? For example they state that for the IPcop there hasn't been any upgrades for a year, and last week they released path nr. 8!

I have regarded LF as a good paper but this is cause to reconsider that.

I read that too.

I felt like writing in but decided it wasnt
worth my time.

Over the last 4 years I came to realise that
SME and the community around it is one of the
best projects and online resources I have ever
used.
