Win 2000 and user login problems

I need some pointers with what I think is a windoze rather than SME problem. Apologies if this problem is obvious to some of you, I however, have a low geek quotient.

I run SME 5.6 with update 4 as a private gateway and server with three windows 2000 SP4 client machines on a home network. A number of user accounts were set up on the server at first install and these haven't been modified since. I did not set up roaming profiles. Some user accounts have been, and are still, regularly used on particular client machines (but not on others). These accounts are functioning normally on those machines.

The problem is that if a user tries to log onto a different machine we get the "the domain HOME is not available" message, even if another user has just logged off the network on that machine. If I try to establish the user and domain through the Windows Users control panel I get the message "The trust relationship between this workstation and the domain is not available".

Having searched through these fora for those two messages I find most people try to unregister the client machines with the domain then re-register them. Others perform some form of wondows registry manipulation.

Tried the first one and get a message along the lines of "this conflicts with existing credentials". Pardon?
Not sure what that means at all.

Not quite brave enough for the second one yet, I need my machine and its info for my business.

Can someone point me towards some info that will help me resolve this please?

Thanks
