Is there a possibility to list the users currently connected to the e-smith server, and the number of opened files they have ?
Sometimes, when I want to halt or reboot the server, I'd prefer to check that it won't cause problems to the users.

Well, webmin (http://webmin.com) has a Samba module that will show you all Samba connections. I'm not sure how useful this really is as it will (probably) only show you who has a drive mapped to an ibay.
Also be VERY careful with webmin. It's mostly incompatible with e-smith and you can break things if you are not careful.
If you just use it to monitor Samba you should be fine.
I personally us it as a front-end to MySQL and it works great for that.
I don't use it for ANYTHING else though on an e-smith box.
