IMAP hesitant with Lookout Depressed
« on: March 11, 2004, 08:14:04 PM »
Hi All,

I hava recently installed SME 6.0 final and have
set up all the users with Outlook Express as IMAP client.

On the whole this works but from time to time OE will freeze on checking / syncing mailboxes ?

It will sit there for ages and stopping / starting it doesnt seem to make a diffrence.

If you go into IMAP folders and refresh _sometimes_ that will free it up - either that or untick Sent Items / Drafts then re-fresh and re-tick works.

Has anyone else noticed this and did you find the cause or a fix for it ?

Thanks !

Try these two things:

1. In Lookout Express, go the Advanced properties of the account and increase the Server Timeouts to Long

2. Increase the number of concurrent IMAP sessions on the server

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop imap ConcurrencyLimit <number>
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/imap-conf
svc -t /service/imap

I have tried both of these with no real change in the problem.

And, it acutally seems to be worse ie it occurs to more of the clients (either that or they never reported it before)

OE sits there forever saying "Checking drafts folder for new messages"

I have tried all sorts fo settings with sync on and off - even removed the ccounts and re-esablished them to no avail. I can ping the mail server no problems and when it does work properly its fine.

HELP PLEASE !!!

Otherwise I am going to have to run round 20 PC's changing them all over to pop3 !!!

Some ideas:

Did you install 6.0 fresh or upgraded from older version? If this is an upgrade I would check the NIC driver that it's using.
Also, is your physical network properly setup (100MB?) like proper CAT5 cabling? Are you using a 100MB switch?

Regards,
Michael

Yes, 6.0 Fresh install. Everything works fine. Apart from that. I think I might end up changing the clients to pop3 becasue I cant seem to find out why this is happening at all. I have looked through messages and logs etc.

The LAN switch and NIC are both 100MB and I have always been able to ping the server without problems and quick times.
