Just a remark for nitpickers: the changelog denotes  6.0.1 e-smith-base release 14 Sat 10 Jan 2004, the rpms directory contains e-smith-base-4.14.1-16.noarch.rpm from 28-Jan-2004.

Thank you to everyone contributing to this initial contribs.org release.

My upgrade (6 to 6.0.1-01)went without incident. I did notice quite a bit of noise in the "messages" log file pertainin to FormMagick. I attach a /small/ portion..

.. snip ..

Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: Use of uninitialized value in open at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/FormMagick.pm line 421, <LEXIN> chunk 114.
Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/FormMagick.pm line 421, <LEXIN> chunk 114.
Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: Can't open lexicon file : No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/FormMagick.pm line 421, <LEXIN> chunk 114.
Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: readline() on closed filehandle esmith::FormMagick::LEXIN at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/FormMagick.pm line 422, <LEXIN> chunk 114.
Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/FormMagick.pm line 223, <LEXIN> line 114.
Mar 18 20:25:00 galadriel e-smith[675]: Use of uninitialized value in subroutine entry at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/XML/Parser/Expat.pm line 474.

--- snip ----

But I can't see any impact, everything which was working is working. I also didn't think it safe to report this cruft as a bug - but it is cruft.

thanks.

regards,

patrick

I am running SME5.6 at present but in a few instances have installed newer versions of packages, e.g. PHP and MySQL.

If I am currently running versions which are later than those in 6.0.1-01, will they be replaced by earlier ones on an upgrade to 6.0.1-01?

Thanks

Nick

I´ve updated. My PHP 4.3.4 installation still works, and all the installed contribs too (including antivirus from www.pagefault.org). I don´t know if the upgrade affects your MySQL installation.

Dear all,

please remember that the 'official' upgrade path is only valid for 'official, 'basic' installations or prior versions without modifications. This has been the case in the past and will be in the future.

Please refer to the author of the specific contrib for upgrade issues or more information on the contribs itself regarding compatibility or other issues.

Please also note that 'virually' almost every contrib is released to be tested (unless otherwise indicated) opposed to be used in production environments.

Meaning test before you really are going to use it.

Do I just do:
rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm (update)
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

Don't forget to do:

# lilo -v

That will give you the new splash screen that we're pretty proud of...  :-)

6 to 6.0.1-01 upgrade issues
« Reply #10 on: March 23, 2004, 09:28:53 PM »
Hi

I'm not sure if I have upgraded correctly from 6 to 6.0.1-01. Here is what I have done:

1) I downloaded the 385 rpms at ftp://www.ibiblio.org/.../6.0.1/RPMS/ (but not the 'TRANS.TBL' file nor the 'headers' folder)
2) I also downloaded the updated initscripts-6.67-1es26.i386.rpm
3) I did a 'rpm -Uvh --replacefiles --nodeps *.rpm' with all the files except 'spamassassin-2.53-1.i386.rpm', 'perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-2.53-1.i386.rpm' and 'sortspam-1.0.0-01.i386.rpm' as I had a well functioning SA running based on 2.63
4) The screen log told me that a lot of the rpms were already installed, which I didn't take much notice of though
5) I did a "/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade" followed by a "/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot"

Is this done correct? The server manager has not changed its look - why?

Regards

Rosie :-)

Wow, what a lot of effort, I think from memory when I upgraded a version 6 install to 6.01 there was about 15 rpms required to do it, that might account for you getting about 370 error messages about packages that are already installed. If you were going to go to the trouble of downloading all that you may as well have just downloaded the iso and done an upgrade.

three cheers for the new version.  This a splendid piece of software which can be installed with confidence and little problems - a sharp contrast to my experiences with vs6 beta 3 and subsequent releases - Contrib.org has delivered. May this site continue to grow and prosper.  Thank you Folks.  chris.
