Upgrading from SME v5.6 with update 6 to SMEServer6.0.1-01
« on: March 18, 2004, 10:33:37 PM »
I am running a SME v5.6 server with a lot of extra RPM files. Can I expect problems with rpm files when upgrading to the new version, or is the new version really just with a new look and some bugfixes, especially because this little piece of info:

"
This release contains mostly bugfixes and changes in appearence. We advise you to update your current e-smith servers with 'takeoff' from 5.5 and up. If you are using earlier versions of the e-smith distribution (e.g. prior to e-smith 5.5) please upgrade to version 5.6 prior to upgrading to 'takeoff'.

I would research all those extra rpms first, to see if they are OK with v6.0 or 6.01. Search these forums by rpm/contrib name as quite a few have been mentioned.

I recently updated from 5.6 to 6.0 and had problems with these.

userpanel - new rpm required, now available
backup2ws - new rpm required, now available as beta
arkeia - new rpm required, not available a few weeks ago, check Shad Lords site

A lot of othet stuff did work OK
