With what respect?

I have a DM602 installed using ethernet rather than USB and then 30ft away is the SME server...

Having had the headaches (and no slip) for the last 24 hours, how can I help :)

Well..........

i set my sme up as a gateway/dedicated server for my lan, but after a while (2mins-10mins) i loose my internet connection. it seems that my ethernet link from sme to the DM602 router goes down.(lan light flashes on dm602), everything still works on the lan ie sme mail/web, just no net connection.

i have set my netgear router to router mode????

thanks for your help

DM602 & SME Problems

I have found this connectivit problem as well! Are you running with two network interfaces on the SME box?

What I've ended up doing is having the SME's 2 NICs plugging into a 10/100 hub where also the network cable from the switch (another room, along with the 602) and all the other network connections plug into and using just the NAT from the 602 and not touching the SME.

I found it kept dropping the connection after 20-30 minutes for some reason and my entire network slowed considerably.

I've downloaded the manual and hope to look that over later...

I have got 2 nics on different subnet to my internal lan.

it is working at the mo, but not sure if its working right, on installation it asks for "Master DNS server IP" if i put BT's dns servers ip in there it seems to work ok. only problem is i cannot connect to any of my virtual domains on the sme server?!?!?!

cheers

Ahh right!

I was told that when it was thus:

602 > Switch > SME > Other PC's

then your PC's gateway, dns, etc are pointing at the SME.

Your SME gateway, dns etc are pointing at the 602 and that then connects to the web...

Thats my understanding....

but if i create www.beerandsleep.net(example) on the sme server and i type that into a client browser i get the beerandsleep internet website!?!
i presume this is because i am entering a Master dns on the sme machine??

thanks

This is where someone more advanced comes in and explains the problem.

The Netgear DM602 is a USB/Ethernet ADSL NAT Router with just one Ethernet port. I've got mine that goes into a switch then to the rest of the network, with 2-4 machines on win98 and the SME box.

Good luck :) Sorry...
