Problem with backup via webmanager

Hi,

This problem have been up to discussion before but i can´t seem to find a solution anywhere.

I run a version 4.0 and are about to upgrade to 4.1.2. Before the upgrade i want to perform a backup (yes, i care a little bit of my stored data).

However:
When i click 'Miscellaneous - Backup or restore' in web manager i get the 'please wait' Web page and the Server HDD starts doing lots of something...If i remember correctly i think it does some calculations of the estimated size of data.

After a few minutes my browser (IE 4.0) gets a timeout waiting for the backup-restore screen.

I do NOT get the screen where i select 'backup' or 'restore'.

I don't think it's the size of the data thats the problem. I had more data stored and backup:ed just fine running version 3.x.

If i login as root and do a df - h /home i get:

Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdb              4.0G  868M  2.9G  23% /home

I have not been able to perform a 'backup-restore' since i installed 4.0. It did work just fine before that though.

Since i would prefer to backup before upgrading i REALLY would like to know how to get by this problem.

A few other questions regarding the upgrade...

When i upgrade,do i just do as i would if i would install a new system (make bootdisk etc) , and get a question whether to 'install or upgrade' during the process?

Is it safe? Have anybody ever lost any data upgrading E-smith? This concerns me if i´m unable to backup.

Can i just 'restore' the backup-file from 4.0 (if i get it downloaded) onto the new system (4.1.2) even if it is from another version?

Best regards,

Klas Östman

Well, the 4.1.2 CD is bootable and you'll have a "Upgrade"-option.

I didn't loss any data by doing an upgrade.
