Topic: new antivirus and spam block, old rav

Right now I am using RAV, but my license is going to expire soon and seeing as how its now going to be run by microsoft I am planning on changing.

I was hoping I would get some suggestions on what to use. My main goals are ease of installation and use.
This will be running on sme 5.6 and I would like to block incoming viruses and some spam if possible.

I would probably be looking for an rpm or install thats ready to go on an SME system, but I can get around linux pretty well if doesnt require recompiling the kernel

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I use ClamAV for email virus protection and there are some good contribs and how-tos to assist in installation and heaps of posts that help with any problems you may encounter. It also gets auto updates every hour so it is constantly on guard for new variants.

I am looking at Spam Assassin for looking after spam but haven't installed it yet. I use it on webmail where another domain is hosted and it seems to work well but you'd have to canvass for how easy it is to install on SME.

I was in the same boat just last week.  Contacted GeCAD and they *will not* issue you an extension to your RAV subscription.  They told me to "start looking for another antivirus solution."

Follow Rob's advice and put ClamAV/Amavis on your box.  Check out the easy script to install at http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk - I used this and it worked like a charm.  1,035 viruses blocked since last Tuesday!

As for spam, I use SpamAssassin and it, too, works wonderfully.  You can find an install script at the same site above.
