Topic: LILO crash after fresh installation

After installing e-smith 4.1.2 lilo crashes (displays L and the stops)

During the installation i got one error message about missing a hda4...

I created an emergency disk but that doesn't work either.... (error X10)

I used only one empty harddisk...

i suppose you have a scsi-controler in you box? that's what me cause the trouble you have now..

unfortunately this didn't work,

to be on the save side: i haven't got a scsi-controler in my box....

some other suggestions?

Not sure this reply will do you any good, but I'll list it just as well.. ..

Throughout the years I've had this error a few times.. Usually it's because the install. never finished, or didn't write the MBR like it should..

To get around it, I've found two ways so far;

1)
Try switching your HD to another set of IDE cables.. say change from primary -> secondary controller and/or change Master/Slave settings..

2)
Throw in another *nix install CD, and repartition the Harddisk. I usually just erase it, and *make* sure it's completely erased before I continue.. For some odd reason, it seems sometimes distributions 'locks' themselves and doesn't overwrite the MBR like they should.. This is not logical, but I think I've received this error some 10+ times on 5+ different comps.. Can't all be coincidence.. ..

rather than commenting out the above line try changing it to LBA32. Had this problem installing Linux before and this fixed it for me.
