web based database for business broking
« on: April 09, 2004, 04:46:53 AM »
Hi All,
I have my SME server running OK and have my web site up and running now I would like to install a database to store businesses for sale. It needs to be web based (php maybe?) so I can access it from any where with a internet connection. The main dat to be stored will be business type, area, price etc. I would also like a search facility and password protected so I can add users with different levels of access. Does anyone have an suggestions, is there anything that I could maybe adapt? Of course it needs to ba able to run on SME, I am using the latest version (Tony's custom ISO). Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Del

Your request is a little vague but it sounds like your best bet is to spend some time looking around http://sourceforge.net/. If your requirements for this web database are that simple then you might even consider a good book, a free weekend and do it yourself. You acquire amazing skills, you are in complete control and it is actually quite simple. I’m speaking from experience.

Sounds like some kind of CRM system.

Check out XRMS at http://xrms.sourceforge.net/

This is a really hard call not knowing experience levels and realizing that individuals pick things up in different ways. For what it’s worth I am an O’Reilly fan and have had a lot of success with ‘Web Database Applications – Hugh E. Williams & David Lane’. I also get a lot out of ‘PHP and MySQL Web Development – Second Edition – Luke Wellington & Laura Thomson’. The first book has a start to finish project to set up an online wine store.
