I recently installed SME 6.0.1 and have set up a few pages and I can access them fine from within my home network.  Although when I try to access them from the internet it says that it cannot find the server.  Although I know it's there, because when I ping it I get a reply.  Is there anything I need to configure so I can access it from the internet?  Thanks!

You really need to describe your network configuration.

It sounds like you could be running your 6.0.1 machine behind an incorrectly configured router/firewall. If so, you need to forward the correct ports from the router/firewall to your 6.0.1 machine.

Here's how I have my network set up:
1. Router (Netgear MR814v2 -->This is set up to provide DHCP service to my home network)
2. Server running SME 6.0.1 : Is set in Server-Gateway Dedicated mode w/ 2 NIC's
>NIC 1 -Local network : Set up with a static ip
>NIC 2 -External network : Set up also with DHCP with ethernet as identifier. [I have also tried the static ip option]
3. Have enabled Port Forwarding to the ports in use by the server so that they can be accessed from the internet.
4. I can see the server just fine on my windows network and through IE and am also able to access it through FTP.  Although I am using DynDNS.org as my dynamic ip service.  When I go to type in this domain name though it does not find my server.  I tried pinging the domain name and I did get a reply.

At this point I'm not sure why I can't see it from the internet - I am using this as a home server and would like to be able to post my sites to them that can be seen on the internet.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

1. Switch you server to Server only mode and give assign it a private (internal) static IP.
2. forward ports 80 and 443 (if you need https:) from your router to the servers IP.
3. Use server as your DNS server for the workstations. If you don't you will have to create hosts file with private IP of you server in order to see its FQDN internaly. This is current limitation of NAT on your router.

Ok I switched my server to "Server-Only" mode and enabled the port forwarding on my router and then everything worked.  Thanks!

One other question though, is it possible to access server-manager from the internet?  When I tried it would not allow me to log in, how would I enable this?  Thanks again!

There are many posts on "remote management" already.
Search this site for remote access server-manager keywords and you will dig out a lot of answers.

First of all you  must decide whether you really want to enable command-line access from the entire internet?
If yes (and it IS a major decision!), just enable it in server-manager. Remember also to modify the admin user account, since it needs VPN-client access.
Then you create a putty session from the external machine you want to access server-manager from, with a tunnel to port 980 (L980 remote:980) on your servers external ip-address, and connect as root.
That done, you just open a browser and point it to http://localhost:980
That setup worked for me, until I decided to disable command-line access from the internet altogether (I simply find it too dangerous seeing the number of attack-attemps mounting in my 'deny-log'!).
How to find the external ip-address in your setup at any given time, I don't know. I have a fixed ip-address myself and no router. My connection just uses DHCP, sending the external address as a client identifier (server-gateway setup).
Hope this helps, and good luck, whatever you decide.

command line enable remote access - server manager

stupid me.
i removed my remote ip address from the server manager and so i get error 404 in firefox, and i cannot ssh into it either.
am i overlooking another way of getting in, re-enabling remote access or i have to call someone on site and walk them thru logging into server manager and adding my ip address again?
also how does one allow any ip remote access, in case i end up needing to do a change from a cyber cafe.
