/var/log/smtpfront-qmail/current
shows all incoming and outgoing email messages including rbl rejections.

Have you made any mods to your system that would affect email, what other contribs or rpms do you have installed ? Is your box a standard v6.01 contribs.org release ?

What other mods or contribs or rpms are on your server, anything installed or configured that could affect email ?
Is it a standard v6.01 contribs.org release ?

Perhaps you just have to wait longer until a message gets rejected so it will appear in the log file.

To see the RBL rejections try this:
 grep rblsmtpd /var/log/smtpfront-qmail/current | tai64nlocal

To see atotal of numbers blocked by RBL's use this command:
 grep -c rblsmtpd /var/log/smtpfront-qmail/current | tai64nlocal

I have no changes from original contribs.org release, only installed amavis-ng from sme.swerts-knudsen.dk and assp on 25 port (smtpfront listening 125 port)
But, tested this connecting on 125 port (from local network). Port 125 closed from outside.

sorry, forgot authorize.

kernel 2.4.20-18 changed to 2.4.26 with strings for iptables(gcc used with -march=athlon).

to view all cludges of ..current may use MC and F3 and END, did't?

i try it for ssl-smtpfront-qmail:
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration show ssl-smtpfront-qmail
output: ssl-smtpfront-qmail=service
    ExternalInterfaceFilter=/usr/bin/qmail-queue.amavis
    Instances=40
    InternalInterfaceFilter=/usr/bin/qmail-queue.amavis
    MaxMessageSize=10000000
    Proxy=enabled
    RBLList=dnsbl.njabl.org:relays.ordb.org
    access=public
    authentication=enabled
    status=enabled

in this case mail sends in/outside localnet connecting on port 465 with TLS without proxiing by assp. i have't any rblsmtpd strings in /var/log/ssl-smtpfront-qmail/current and any traffic to this rbl-bases. i.e. mail not checks on rbl-servers. :(

And ASSP is the reason why the RBL is never consulted - look at the IP that smtpfront-qmail recieves mail from - it's always going to be 127.0.0.1 & that's why the RBL can't work.

Doing controlled tests here, I think that ASSP is largely obsoleted by the RBL feature, so I would consider dumping ASSP and just use the RBL.

thanks NickR.

yes, assp redirecting passed mail from 25 port to 127.0.0.1:125 and rblsmtpd did't requests to rbl-bases, so /var/log/smtpfront-qmail/current has no entries of rblsmtpd with logs.

by default SME6 has no antivirus, antispam(spamassasin myabe usefull for stucks, which eating plenty of resources) modules.
only patterns for filtering, not managing by panel.
use contribs.org and pagefault.org, sme.swerts-knudsen.dk for download and install addintional software. You may install and use gcc, then compile all what you want.

According to dev mailing list, Gordon Rowell has updated his contrib (still beta): http://lists.contribs.org/mailman/public/devinfo/msg06779.html

Had no time to check the old, anyone already got along with the newer version?

It's running fine on a production box, the underlying concept did not change between the old and new versions, just the server manager email panel and the grouping of the standard patterns.

A nice additional feature was the ability to have one level of pseudonym of a pseudonym. Works OK too.

I will update the HOWTO when the contribs.org upload facility is working again.

Thank you Gordon

As it says in the HOWTO, where filtering occurs after the message has been accepted by the server, then that method should be compatible with RBL spam blocking.
So far the only spam software found to be incompatibele is ASSP, as it also uses RBL.

Mind you, if you implement RBL blocking you won't have a lot of spam to look at, there is very little need to use any additional spam filter such as spamassassin.

Saw that this morning. I've said it before....for all you want to talk about United and their international profile http://getinternet.topcities.com/, they really seem to do business the right way. I'm interested to see just how much Kenyon had to do with these results, so next year will be interesting.
