Dual processor in 6.0.1

I have a Compaq proliant 1600 with a smart array 221 and two 400 mhs processors. I was running 5.6 on it just fine for about a year. I moved all my info to another server and am now going to rebuild the server with 6.0.1.

I did a fresh install and everything seemed to go well. But there are two big problems.

1: By default on boot up the server is picking single processor. I have to pick duel by hand. With 5.6 I don’t recall even getting a choice it just booted in duel processor. Can this be fixed or have I missed something.

2: When I boot it up and log in as root and type ifconfig the server hangs. I can ping the server from my desktop computer. I can’t log into the server manager. The server gives me a cert then an error. The network card worked just fine with 5.6.

I have several 1600's myself.

1) Update system and raid bios's
2) Run SmartStart and do a system erase. Be sure to set Linux as the OS.
3) Load your version 6

Works just fine for me....

My PL1600 suffers from problem #1 (selects single CPU mode by default), but not problem #2.

Before installing, I did System Erase, lastest BIOS/ROMPaqs, System Partition then installed 6.0.1 without problems.

Any suggestions for manually changing the default preference on startup?

Also, does anyone have information on how to monitor the system via lm_sensors? The usual sensor-detect process returns no valid sensors.

I purchased the server form a company that went out of business.($400 Canadian) I don’t have the smart start CD. Could one of you create an ISO and email it to me. David.drysdale@vision-networking.ca. I can except files up to 10 Megs. I can up that if it is bigger. I have ordered smart start 5.4 but it will take 16 days to get here.

Here is how to get 6.0.1 to boot dual processor by default.
1: log into the servers shell.
2: cd /etc
3: pico lilo.conf  (if I edited the file with any other program it didn’t work this included winscp)

4: change (default=SMEServer-up) to (default=SMEServer-smp) do not add the brackets
5: ctrl +o (saves changes)
6: ctrl +x (exits the program)
7: then type lilo and you should have a star by SMEServer-smp

If this is required, then the 6.0 -> 6.0.1 upgrade broke a feature. In Mitel's 6.0, the default boot-up kernel is set to whatever was chosen at the previous bootup. It should default to SMP first time, but if it doesn't, then just choose SMP at bootup, and subsequent bootups should default to SMP. If it doesn't behave this way, then report the bug to "Bug Tracker" at this website.
