Printing problems
« on: April 18, 2004, 04:16:55 PM »
Hi everybody,

I'm experiencing a printing problem: Whatever I send to my Lexmark laser printer (which is attached to the SME box as local printer) over the network comes out as crap. Sometimes the first half of a page is printed on one sheet and the other half on the next sheet, and often the text on a whole page is replaced with strange characters.

When I used 5.6 printing worked fine with the exactly same setup, but as soon as I upgraded to 6 Beta 3 and now 6 final the above problem occurred. Does anybody know what I can do about this?

Regards
Martin

Try installing the CUPS contribs. This worked for me.

I have a Lexmark e210 connected to 6.0 final box via parallel cable ... prints fine using LPR from windows and Linux clients.

Hi,

First I installed the cups contribs just as Knut suggested, when this didn't help I made a clean install of SME 6 but printing was still messed up! You say that printing with lpr is generally not a problem, and I believe it because I've been printing using SME as print server for a while.

I installed SME 6 after upgrading the mainboard in the sme box with an Elitegroup P6VEM3 with Via C3 cpu some weeks ago. First I just powered it up after completing work but not surprisingly there were hardware issues and I decided to install 6.0 instead of 5.6 from the start.

Now I ain't sure whether the printing problems could also be caused by the mainboard? Can anybody confirm this? And how could it be solved?
