sme server and homepna..can´t get it work.
« on: April 19, 2004, 12:55:29 PM »
Hi i got sme server and i would like to connect to internet with my homepna(1.1 version card) connection. So how i do it?
It requires username and password to connect to internet.
I have found that esmith can connect with to DHCP and get its IP from there, but it just sends accountname or networkd address to login. So i need to send ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD to my providers DHCP server to login.
My homepna works with sme server and it tries to connect to my DHCP at the start of the sme server about 2-4minutes, but it can´t get in because it doesn´t send any password...only the username.
So does anybody know how to get sme server to connect to my ISPs server with username and password.

ps.this all means that i DONT have static IP.
Could someone help me :).

greetings from ismo

hello

I am not sure how you are trying to connect

dsl or cable ?

dsl usually uses pppoe and setting up sme is a snap but you must use gateway/server mode with 2 nic's one to your modem one to your lan there is a screen to put in you account info

if you are using a homeportal or router from sbc or some other
isp your account info goes in it and any computer connecting to it will connect

i got homepna connection which connects to my house router and that connects to ISP. So all that live in my house have to connect first to router and then send USERNAME AND PASSWORD to ISP to connect to it.
For more information check www.homepna.org . That kind of connection i got.
ps. i don´t own the router. It´s owned by the man who rents the house.

You are obviously not directly on the internet. You would have to get your friend to forward a few ports to your machine.
