Error 619 when VPN out of server-and-gateway
« on: April 19, 2004, 09:05:10 PM »
I have an SME 6.01-01 server running server-and-gateway at home.

I am trying to VPN out (not in) from my Windows XP pc behind the SME server at home to my office.

But the connection fails with error 619.

I have read most of the threads about this, but most of them concerns VPN into the SME - not out through it.

I had the same problem with SME 5.6 but I didn't have the problem with previous versions.

Is your account allowed to connect to the server you are trying to VPN to? Can you connect while bypassing SME?

Yes - SME is the problem

Yes to both questions. If I bypass the SME I have no problems.

Jesperhaun,

Do you have any personal firewall software running?  Free versions of many personal firewalls don't support VPNs.  I use an old ZoneAlarm 2.62 (great except it doesn't support VPNs)

Do you have a firewall-router between the remote client and the Internet such as a Linksys box?  Most home/soho routers do not support more than one VPN stream and also require that the 'client' workstation's IP address be set in the router to receive PPTP/IPSec packets.

Both of the above generate 619 errors on my XP Pro client if they fixed.  Otherwise I have no problems using the SMEserver VPN in the 6.01-01custom setup I have at a customer's site.

I also followed the instructions for Windows client setup located here.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't use a personal firewall.

I have a Zyxel router with NAT and very basic port-closing and port-forwarding. No ports are closed. It simply forwards all traffic to my SME server.

My current setup worked with SME 5.5 - but it dosen't work with SME 5.6 or SME 6.

I am trying to connect to a Cisco VPN box at work with Microsoft Windows XP and the built in VPN client. That dosen't work.

My wife (which is behind the same SME server) dosen't have any problems. She is connecting to a Firewall-1 box at work with a Firewall-1 client.
