Is SME 5.6 supporting USB and APC Back-UPS ES USB
« on: April 20, 2004, 12:08:39 AM »
I've SME Server 5.6 up and running for several months and I'm thinking now about buying this UPS (http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm) for my server and the 500Va for my computer.

But before I'd to be sure that firstly, SME Server supports USB?

I've a bracket to add USB Port on my old motherboard but I've removed it before installing SME. Will I have to re-installe it?

And will SME be able to monitor my USB and shut down when the battery is low?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have one of them on my SME 5.6 server (it´s an EPIA5000), and despite my BIG efforts I was unable to have all apcupsd funcionallity!

Last week I tried again (have you seen www.apcupsd.org ?) but now my nobreak refuses to identify himself on USB bus!

For now I cannot garantee you that it will work!
I´m trying to understand why it not identifies on USB  bus... but appear that on apcupsd 3.10.x they should work WITH AN USB CABLE (940-0127x)

Sorry do not have GOOD news to you... :(

Starting from SME 6 USB UPS is supported via nut. Latest system-monitor version even display some status of USB UPS. If you don't upgrade and stay with SME 5.6, serial UPS monitoring is way to go.

Hi,
NUT is also included in 5.6 and works great with APC UPS's. I have also used a Belkin UPS. See: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=7523.0 Hope this helps.
Regards,
Del
